British media ‘The Sun’ reported on the 13th (Korea Standard Time) that “Eddie Howe may replace Anji Postecoglou if Amanda Staveley and her fund managers invest in Tottenham.”

British businessman Amanda Staveley, along with her husband Mehdad Godusi, was qualified as co-owner in 2021 when she contributed to the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund’s (PIF) acquisition of Newcastle United.

Staveley, who has been at Newcastle for about three years, resigned with her husband in July and recently drew attention as she reportedly wants to take a stake in Tottenham.

“Amanda Staveley is taking over Tottenham,” The Sun said in August. “According to the sources, she is receiving enormous funding from the Middle East and wealthy individuals.”

“According to global media Forbes, Tottenham is valued at 2.42 billion pounds (about 4.27 trillion won),” he said, adding, “The cost required for Staveley to acquire a 25% stake in the club could be 650 million pounds (about 1.15 trillion won).”

Spurs Insider also said on social networking services (SNS) on the 5th, “It is understood that Amanda Staveley is ready to invest 500 million pounds (about 881.7 billion won) in Tottenham.”

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy and Staveley have talked several times over the past few months about the possibility of an investment that is progressing with funding from the Middle East, the media said. “The transaction could be completed by early next year.”

The news that a significant investment could be made if Staveley took over the stake and qualified as co-owner was enough to excite Tottenham fans.

Unlike his fans, however, Postecoglou was caught in tension. Media outlets predicted that if Staveley becomes eligible to become the owner of Tottenham, he could replace Postecoglou and start with a change of coach.

Former Newcastle co-owner Staveley and her incredibly wealthy backers want to buy a stake in Tottenham, the media said. “She is a big fan of Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.”

“If things don’t get any better for Anji Postecoglou, who is having a tough early season with Tottenham, Howe will be the one to be on Staveley’s preferred list of coaches,” he added.

Postecoglou, who started leading Tottenham from 2023-24 season, finished his debut season in fifth place in the Premier League. He failed to advance to the UEFA Champions League, which he had targeted, but left a positive evaluation when he got a ticket to the UEFA Europa League.

He is now in a difficult beginning in the 2024-25 season, his second year in the league. Postecoglou has garnered three wins, one draw and three losses in seven Premier League matches since the season’s opening, staying in ninth place.

On the 7th, Tottenham ended the first half 2-0 in an away match against Brighton and Hove Albion in the seventh round of the Premier League, but failed to win points in the second half, allowing three goals and suffering a shocking 2-3 come-from-behind defeat.

The possibility of Postecoglou’s replacement is not currently being discussed, but the media predicted that if a new owner comes, Postecoglou could be replaced and Eddie Howe could become the new Tottenham head coach.

The Saudi sovereign wealth fund  and 꽁머니 group picked Howe, who had been leading Bournemouth as its new head coach after taking over Newcastle in November 2021. At the time, Newcastle had five draws and six defeats in 11 league games, falling to 19th place, having risen since Howe took over to finish the season in 11th place.

In the 2022-23 season, he finished fourth in the Premier League, advancing Newcastle to the UEFA Champions League stage for the first time in 21 years. However, he finished seventh in the Premier League last season due to too many injuries.

He has garnered three wins, three draws and one loss since the season’s opening, ranking seventh, two places higher than Tottenham’s. With impressive leadership performance at Newcastle, Howe is also being considered a candidate for the leadership of the English national team.
