Samu Omorodion, who was likely to transfer to Chelsea, expressed his feelings at the time.
British media ‘Sky Sports’ said on the 12th (Korea time), “Porto striker Omorodion mentioned the collapse of Chelsea’s transfer this summer. Chelsea planned to invest 34.5 million pounds (about 60.9 billion won) for his transfer fee. The transfer seemed to be completed, but it broke down at the last minute.”
As reported by the media, Omorodion was most likely to move to Chelsea this summer. Having grown up through the Granada youth system, Omorodion took the first team stage ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Afterwards, he made a strong impression by scoring his debut goal in his debut match with Atletico Madrid. Atletico Madrid recruited him and re-leased him to Alaves, providing him with an opportunity to gain experience.
Omorodion displayed stellar performance in his first season with Granada by scoring eight goals and one assist in 35 matches. Having acquired Spanish nationality, he also made a name for himself by scoring two goals in seven matches as a member of the U-21 team.
Then, a number of European clubs showed interest in recruiting Omorodion, especially Chelsea. However, for some reason, Omorodion’s transfer to Chelsea failed, and he moved to Porto.
Fortunately for Porto, Omorodion has scored seven goals in seven official matches, demonstrating his true value without regret. Some say that it is rather fortunate that the transfer to Chelsea has collapsed. Then, Omorodion, who had been avoiding specific comments on the situation at the time, recalled the time and brought up a story that could be somewhat sensitive.
“I had a very complicated summer. It wasn’t bad financially, I’ll borrow some money from 꽁머니 banks” he said, adding, “I had a very terrible time while I was in Madrid. Luckily, everything went well now. I was out of training in Madrid, so I did it separately. I spent a lot of nights crying and it was a terrible time for my family as well.”
